Greetings from West Asia! This is for a Danny Dorling article looking at Europe two hundred years from now, after its downfall. It is now 'West Asia'. I need to do a series of these, I think. Highlights of old Europe in a hypercolour Asian future.

For an article on Open Barbers: queer friendly hairdressers.

This accompanies an article for the upcoming STRIKE! on undercover police who infiltrated activist groups for years at a time, having relationships with women and in some cases children with them, whilst informing on them secretly. Hideous practice.

From a Strike! article by Selina Todd called 'Fuck your hard work. Where's our three day week?' Such a great title.

This is a pic that accompanies an article by Feminist Fightback for Strike! mag's feminist issueStanley Donwood did the cover!

...and then there will be a pretty uproar

Soon to be printed as a limited edition poster for Strike! magazine as part of a series of quotes, not sure if it will be printed as I missed the deadline (oops). The amazing Paperwork Press based in Camberwell are printing the series.  They only work in risographs, so the print will be a two colour affair and will look pretty different.  The others in the series are bloody brilliant, check them out:

Top Cornflake.
Illustration accompanying a much–re-tweeted article written by Danny Dorling on Boris' recent talk, where he spoke about inherited IQs, cornflakes, and other related topics.  What he actually meant by all of this has been debated nationally.

The Revolver Issue.
This cover is a collaboration with chief designer Rowan Powell (@rowanpowell).  I am really very excited about the next cover artist for the Spring this space...!

Another one for Strike! magazine, accompanying an article called Recuperating Democracy - From Turkey to Occupy, by Marina Sitrin.  It talks about the global sense of dissatisfaction of the majority of people, and how this is a global phenomenon.  The lack of representation that people feel from the political elites; and how this translates into direct action and massive, public shows of anger in the form of demonstrations and occupations; are presented, not only as a growing movement, but one linked by the same ideals and the same loud demands for change.

I tried to show the global nature of the phenomenon, by including drawings of people from demos all over the world, from the recent occupation and protests in Tahrir Square, Egypt (the crowds in the background of the letters), to Istanbul, South Africa, and the US.

Get Strike! here.

Lake District.  Boggy, wet and marshy. Playing around with Lightroom.

Published in my friends' new subversive magazine Strike!  Originally the artwork featured a human/unicorn hybrid lady in stockings being hunted by tiny naked people...but the author pulled the article ('The Hunt for the Unicorn' about polyamorist relationships) so re-did it for a very provocative anti-war one.  Still got some naked people in there though.

Himalayas - as seen from above Vashist, northern India

I climbed for ages, stumbled across a cannabis plantation (!) before finding the perfect spot to paint from.  This is ink and acrylic.  The sun was so bright I could hardly look at the paper!

Rishikesh, India during the Kumbh Mela

One hour drawing in the morning as the crowds start to appear on the bridge over the river Ganges.  The heat even at that time was oppressive and I was envious of the people bathing in the ice-cold water.

Pen on paper, March 2010

Kite flying and cricket, Delhi

Hour and a half drawing from the steps of a mosque in Delhi, India.  March 14 2010
Ink, biro, acrylic, letraset and acetate on paper

Himalayan women.

Having a much-needed break after two days walking up hill to a religious site and the best views of the Himalayan mountains I have ever seen.  These women were about 80 (rough estimate) and if you look closely you can see they are smoking a cigarette!  There must be something in the Nepalese water.
